From the filmmaker who coined the phrase "Critical
in the early nineties in the documentary entitled Return
of the Scorcher
comes We are Traffic
. A chronicle of the history and development
of the "Critical
Mass" bicycle movement, We Are Traffic
depicts a spirited and dynamic movement of the
otherwise apathetic 90s. Now established in over 100 cities
in 14 countries, Critical Mass is, for many bicycle enthusiasts,
a monthly ritual of riding en masse, forming a swarm of pedal-power
in an attempt to reclaim the streets.
We Are Traffic tracks this leaderless,
grassroots movement from its beginnings in San Francisco in
1992 to its spread across the globe. Provocative and entertaining,
this documentary presents a side of Critical Mass not seen
in mainstream media. The video documents both the successes
and failures of this unique movement and provides a fascinating
analysis of a modern political movement challenging all the
norms. Featured are shots of Critical Mass in action in Texas,
Oregon, New York, London and even as far away as Sydney, Australia.
